and a summary of top 50 nutrition books.
The wisdom of crowds in nutrition: what do top 50 nutrition books agree on?
We all have our favorite nutrition books, each filled with promises of a 6-pack and life altering knowledge: the only issue is that most of the books seem to contradict each other - one expert says coffee is great for you, the next traces all human problems to drinking coffee, and the third convinces us that only black coffee seasoned with sheep butter on moonlit Tuesdays is OK and everything else is bad! So what is a normal person with limited time to do?
We read all top 50 nutrition books (and more than 350 academic papers) and compiled a list of what everyone agrees on. The simple idea is that if all these experts and common sense agree strongly on anything, we should probably follow it in practice, observe the actual results we get, and keep tweaking to customize. While we make this customizable tool using machine learning techniques guided by medical expertise, check out the infographic and read our simple 0-1-2-3 summary.
Figure 1: Percent (%) agreement among experts on nutrition advice. The height of a bar indicates what % of experts agreed on this topic. For example, there was near unanimous agreement (92%) on avoiding processed food to achieve better health and that is shown on the extreme left with a dark green bar, whereas only 8% of experts agree on using cheat meals as a part of a healthy nutrition plan hence the height of the cheat meal bar is much lower and it is positioned on the extreme right.

Smoothie bowl recipe
This smoothie bowl recipe has been included by public demand over Apurv’s patent pending protests.
Method:
Take 300 g of spinach + about 400g of water + 15 g of walnuts + chunk of Ginger + protein and blend them for about 3 minutes until it is well mixed.
Pour about half of the mix into the bowl.
Then add 200g of frozen blueberries (or your fav. fruit- mango, raspberries etc.) and 50 -100 g of water or coconut milk (depending on your taste or consistency you want) and blend again.
Then pour the resulting blend on top of the previous blend. It creates a cool effect and provides a different taste and texture within the smoothie bowl.
Garnish with chia seeds and goji berries and the rest of the walnuts or other nuts.
Pro Tip: Add 1 scoop (25g) vegan protein (Kaizen or any other that dissolves well). Coconut milk.
With the basic proportions of greens, nuts, and fruits in place you can tweak the recipe to make it your own, use cucumber and kale for greens, hemp and coconut flakes for garnish etc. Experiment and have fun, and tell us about it!
Metrics corner
So what's the benefit of a communal pursuit of health? We all know from personal experience and scientific research (Pentland, A. (2015). Social physics: how good ideas spread-the lessons from a new science.) that it is easier and more fun to do tough things together and turns out that even in our own little community (with a very limited sample size) chatter and performance seem to go hand in hand! Though not a causal link between messages and health, it is still fun to share pics, exchange messages and remain engaged!
““On average, it turned out that the social network incentive scheme worked almost four times more
efficiently than a traditional individual-incentive market approach. For the buddies who had the most
interactions with their assigned target, the social network incentive worked almost eight times better
than the standard market approach.
And better yet, it stuck. People who received social network incentives maintained their high levels
of activity even after the incentives disappeared. These small but focused social network incentives
generated engagement around new, healthier habits of behaviour by creating social pressure for
behaviour change in the community”
