But sometimes the surviving (roughly- simple immediate action or type I of Kanheman and Tversky) and thriving (more complex, thoughtful behavior or the type II of Kanheman and Tversky) parts drive in opposite directions: we may want to eat excess calories when we feel anxious since our survival part is triggered even though our thriving part knows there is no actual existential threat.
